Regular cleaning of your Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device is key to achieving optimal results. Inevitably, the ambient humidity level and the air exhaled by the user lead to the formation of a microscopic layer composed of bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. Together, they form what is known as biofilm. This biofilm allows microorganisms to multiply within the mask and tubing of the device. The appearance and growth of biofilm increase the risk of respiratory tract contamination.
It is essential to thoroughly clean all parts of your CPAP device. However, remember that you should never use products such as alcohol, bleach, vinegar, or chlorine to clean your device. In addition, it is best to keep the CPAP machine near your bed, in a well-ventilated and dust-free area.
