For a return to your full potential
After breast surgery, it is important to regain symmetry, to give a positive meaning to your life, and to experience the pleasure of being a woman again. There are many options available to women to help them regain their figure and restore their self-confidence.
Designed to meet the specific needs of women immediately after breast or thoracic surgery and during treatments (mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction, radiation, augmentation, reduction, etc.).
We are talking mainly about compression bras, abdominal compression bands, and many other models of compression garments for post-surgical support.
Our well-known brand prostheses are offered in a wide range of shapes, colors, and sizes suitable for all body shapes and breasts because our customers are so different. They are individually handcrafted with a proprietary silicone blend and feature a durable, matte polyurethane finish that gives them a smooth, natural-looking texture.
Appropriate bras are necessary for optimum comfort. They have features not found in regular bras.
A breast prosthesis is a silicone insert worn in a bra to restore the volume and symmetry of a breast after surgery. It is designed for women who have undergone a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or breast reconstruction. These prostheses are made from a proprietary silicone and feature a matte polyurethane finish that gives them a smooth texture and a natural appearance.
You can start wearing a silicone breast prosthesis once healing has progressed sufficiently, often a few weeks after surgery. In the days following surgery, it’s best to wear post-operative garments and a lightweight temporary prosthesis to avoid putting any pressure on the incision site. The right time varies from person to person: a Médicus specialist can guide you during an evaluation appointment.
Yes, the RAMQ offers a financial assistance program for breast prostheses. It is intended for individuals who have undergone a mastectomy or have congenital absence of the breast and who hold a valid health insurance card. Renewal is generally eligible once every 24 months, and a doctor’s prescription is required for the initial application. For current benefit amounts and details about your case, please contact the RAMQ; the Médicus team can assist you with the process.
The choice depends on your body type, the type of surgery, and the natural shape of your breasts, in order to achieve a comfortable symmetry. Médicus offers a wide range of shapes, colors, and sizes, because every client is unique. The best approach is to schedule a personalized fitting at one of our locations, in a private and welcoming setting, where a professional will advise you. We recommend making an appointment to ensure you receive service tailored to your needs.
A silicone breast prosthesis is easy to care for, just wash it by hand. Wash it in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse it, then gently pat it dry with a towel; store it in its protective case when you’re not wearing it. Avoid using your fingernails, sharp objects, and heat sources, which can damage the silicone, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. With daily use, a prosthesis generally needs to be replaced after about two years, which also corresponds to the replacement frequency covered by the RAMQ. If you notice any wear or a change in comfort, schedule a reevaluation.
Yes, a doctor’s prescription is required to obtain a breast prosthesis, particularly to be reimbursed by the RAMQ. However, you can consult a specialist at one of our locations without a prescription to receive advice and have your measurements taken. Please note that since the orthotist is not a doctor, she does not make diagnoses or issue prescriptions. We recommend making an appointment to ensure personalized service; book online or contact us.
