This type of orthosis is designed to relieve pressure on the arthritic knee compartment.
By improving the biomechanics of the joint affected by osteoarthritis, the orthosis realigns knee pressure and thus provides pain relief of the affected compartment. Knee function is normalized and the need for knee replacement surgery can be delayed.
Offered exclusively at Médicus, the EVOKETM orthosis is the first knee orthosis for osteoarthritis to reproduce the natural movement of the knee. It is 50% lighter than all other orthoses designed for osteoarthritis.
These orthoses and braces are used to stabilize the knee after ligament instabilities, trauma or surgeries. They provide stability and increase function during activity or rehabilitation.
A ligament knee orthotic is recommended in the following cases:
Knee immobilizers are designed to help patients recovering from knee surgery, or those suffering from a knee injury or instability. They immobilize the knee by restricting the articular range of the knee. This limitation is adjustable as the rehabilitation progresses.
A knee immobilizer is recommended in the following cases:
A knee orthosis is designed to protect, stabilize and support the knee joint, which bears a significant portion of your body weight. It can help you safely return to your activities after an injury or surgery, limit improper movements and relieve pain, particularly in cases of osteoarthritis. To learn more, read our guide, “Everything You Need to Know About Knee Orthoses“.
The type of knee orthosis you need depends on your condition. A knee osteoarthritis orthosis helps redistribute pressure within the knee to unload the affected compartment. A stabilizing knee orthosis supports the knee following ligament instability, trauma or surgery, including conditions involving the ACL, meniscus or patellofemoral syndrome. A knee immobilization orthosis limits the knee’s range of motion after surgery and can be adjusted as needed. A Médicus orthotist can help you determine which model is best suited to your needs.
A knee orthosis is generally worn directly against the skin. Avoid placing it in contact with an open wound. To care for your orthosis, wash it regularly by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap. Do not soak it. Blot away excess moisture and allow it to air dry away from direct heat sources. Proper care helps prevent skin irritation and extends the lifespan of the orthosis.
The EVOKE knee orthosis is designed for knee osteoarthritis and is available exclusively at Médicus. It is the first orthosis designed to replicate the knee’s natural movement and is 50% lighter than other knee osteoarthritis orthoses. Custom-made using 3D modelling, its minimalist design makes it easy to incorporate into everyday life. For more information, visit the EVOKE knee orthosis page.
You do not need a prescription to consult a professional at a Médicus location. However, depending on the product recommended, a medical prescription may be required. Because an orthotist is not a physician, they do not provide a medical diagnosis. Booking an appointment is recommended so that you can receive an assessment and advice tailored to your condition. You can contact us online or speak with our team by phone.
Médicus offers both prefabricated and custom-made knee orthoses. Many knee orthoses are prefabricated models that are selected and adjusted to fit you, while others are custom-made, such as the EVOKE knee osteoarthritis orthosis, which is created using 3D modelling. The appropriate type depends on your condition, activity level and support needs.
