You do not need a medical prescription to consult an orthotist at our clinics. However, depending on the type of product (custom-made or prefabricated), a prescription may be required. For example, medical items such as foot orthotics, custom orthotics, compression stockings of 20mmHg or more, or devices for the treatment of sleep apnea generally require a prescription.
Your prescription is valid for several years, but some insurance companies require a new one for each renewal of orthotics or compression stockings. We recommend checking with your insurer.
These products must be prescribed by an authorized healthcare professional, according to insurance requirements. This may include a medical specialist (orthopedist, physiatrist, rheumatologist, neurologist, neurosurgeon, geriatrician), a general practitioner, a podiatrist, or, in some cases, a nurse practitioner specialized in primary care (IPSPL).
It is important to check your policy and coverage details with your private insurance provider. During your appointment, the orthotist will also review your prescription and confirm its validity.
