Multiple sclerosis

What is multiple sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis is an auto-immune disease affecting the central nervous system. The damage to the nerve cells affects the transmission of signals from the brain to the rest of the body, triggering neuromotor losses and sometimes cognitive losses.

Where does it come from?

Multiple sclerosis may be of genetic or environmental origin. In both cases, the factors involved trigger the deregulation of immunity, inflammation and nerve degeneration. This nerve damage disrupts the communication capacity of the different structures of the nervous system, causing symptoms to appear.

How can it be recognized?

Multiple sclerosis appears in the form of disorders of neurological origin, affecting certain functions, such as motor ability, sensitivity, and vision. More rarely, psychotic disorders, such as depression or mania, can be noted. They may be due to brain damage caused by the disease, but more often to the resulting anxiety.
