Lumbago

What is lumbago?

Lumbago, also known as low back pain, corresponds to an inflammation appearing in the lumbar region, in the low back, caused by the impairment of one of its structures (vertebrae, muscles, ligaments, cartilage).

Lumbago is one of the most frequent reasons for medical consultation. It is located in the low back. The lumbar region is composed of vertebrae, muscles, and ligaments. Between each pair of vertebrae is a disk composed of cartilage, which acts as a shock absorber.

Where does it come from?

Lumbago may occur when a muscle, a ligament, a vertebra or an intervertebral disk is affected in some way. This may be due to a trauma of mechanical origin, or to a condition causing degeneration of the intervertebral disks or the facet joints.

How can it be recognized?

The pains associated with lumbago vary according to their cause. Often, they are sharper at the beginning of the day and tend to fade with movements and stretching. The pain may be:

  • Moderate or acute;
  • Occasional or chronic;
  • Deep or superficial;
  • Stabbing, precise or diffuse.

Treatment solutions for lumbago

Evaluation of posture and gait allows the design of a custom-made foot orthosis that seeks to optimize postural balance. The realignment of the lower limbs helps relieve the symptoms of lumbago by eliminating many sources of tension and pressure that can affect the lumbar region.
