Corns

What is a corn?

A corn is a bump located on the surface of the toes. It is characterized by thickening and hardening of the skin at the location where excessive pressure and friction are produced for a prolonged period.

Where does it come from?

Certain factors favour corn formation, including:

  • Poor weight distribution on the foot;
  • Deformation of the toes (hammertoes, hallux valgus);
  • Wearing shoes that are too short, too tight or too pointy

Treatment solutions

A foot orthosis with a metatarsal dome helps uniformize the support points under the foot and offers more stability. A separator can be placed between the toes to reduce friction.

It is recommended to wear an adapted shoe that respects the anatomy of the foot while eliminating pressure points and friction of the toes. The features to prefer are plenty of space in the forefoot without stitches and solid rear reinforcements.
